Now, you are reading the competitive approach for the proper noun.

You must have read the proper noun definition well. However, I would like to have a look at it.

We know that the proper noun is the particular names of the common noun.

For example –

I would apologise that I am not on the exact topic of proper noun examples in sentences currently. I would not go into details about the proper noun definition and so on. Instead, I would have a brief introduction to the subject. So, have patience.

If we say that there is a boy, it means the word ‘boy’ is a member of a common noun. On the contrary, if we say Ankit is a good boy. Here in the sentence, Ankit is a proper noun because it is a particular name of the common noun.

Likewise, the city is a common noun. But Lucknow is a proper noun.

Right!

Now, come to the subject we are dealing with.

The list of proper noun examples in sentences

Rule – 1 – Use of A/An

See the first rule of the list of proper noun examples in sentences.

Generally, the article is used for the common noun. It is not used with the proper noun. Isn’t it?

However, we may use an article with the proper noun as well. But, the proper noun loses its real meaning. It does not remain as a proper noun but becomes a common noun. It means that the proper noun tells the qualities of the person.

In short, if you want to take the qualities of a person, use an article with it.

See the example below.

Now, the youth needs a Vivekanand as a guide.

Here in the sentence, an article is used with the proper noun ‘Vivekanad.’ Now, it is not Vivekanand the youth needs. But, it is a man who has the qualities of Vivekanand.

See some more examples.

There is not a Gandhi in day to day politics.

Now, we can not find a Tendulkar in the Indian team.

Rule – 2 – Use of Article ‘the’

See the second rule of the list of proper noun examples in sentences.

If there are many proper nouns and you want to point a particular person in the proper noun group, you should use the definite article ‘the’.

See the example below.

Here is the Sanskar who can help you with your project.

It means there are many people named Sanskar. But the sentence points out a particular Sanskar who can help with the project. Other Sanskars can not help with it.

I hope you are getting the subject – list of proper noun examples in sentences well.

Rule – 3 – Plurals of Proper noun

See the third rule of the list of proper noun examples in sentences.

Here in this rule, let’s make a proper noun plural.

What!

A plural?

You might think about how you can make plurals of a proper noun?

That is the catch.

If we use the plural number of a proper noun, it again tells the person’s quality.

See the example.

The world is full of Tendulkars. But they do not get opportunities.

So, let us examine the above sentence. Tendulkar is a proper noun. Here Tendulkars, the plural number of a proper noun, is there in the sentence. It means the quality of Tendulkar, a good batsman.

Rule – 4 – Use of Some

See the fourth rule of the list of proper noun examples in sentences.

If you do not know the person exactly, who is that? You can use the word ‘some’ before a proper noun.

See the example below.

There is some Anand at the door.

It means that there is a person at the door. His name is Anand, but I do not know him. He is unknown to me.

Rule – 5 – Use of Apostrophe

See the fifth rule of the list of proper noun examples in sentences.

Here in the rule, we will work with the surname of a proper noun.

See the example below.

He went to Vermas’ last month.

Here Vermas’ means the house of Verma. You need not use the word house in the sentence if you use an apostrophe for the sense.

So if you use the apostrophe with the plural of a surname, it gives the meaning of house. You don’t have to use the word ‘house’.

I hope you understand the list of proper noun examples in sentences well. Now move onto the common noun examples, collective noun examples, abstract noun examples and material noun examples.
